In Year 10 Tamatea High School offers the New Zealand Curriculum in the eight essential learning areas: 

  * English
  * Mathematics and Statistics
  * Learning Languages
  * Science
  * Social Science
  * Technology
  * Health and Physical Education
  * Arts

This is offered as follows:

  * English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Physical Education are studied for the whole year.
  * Health and Physical Well being is studied for half a year.

Year 10 students have the option of selecting areas they wish to specialise in.  Students choose two subjects and a reserve subject from the following:

  * Visual Art
  * Design Technology (Hard Materials)
  * Design Technology (Soft Materials)
  * Digital Technologies
  * Performance Music
  * Japanese
  * French
  * Te Reo Maori
  * Maori Performing Arts
  * Drama
