INTERNATIONAL FEE PAYING STUDENTS

Tamatea High School, Established in 1975, aims to deliver personal excellence in a Modern, Innovative, Coeducational environment

Location and Facilities
Tamatea High School is situated in sunny Napier, a seaside city with a population of 54,000
people.  The climate is hot in summer and cool in winter.  The school is attractive and modern with facilities such as an auditorium, gymnasium, a
music/drama suite, computerised library, student support centre, computers, science laboratories and technical blocks as well as large sports grounds and a canteen.

Academic Programme
We take a holistic approach to learning and strive to support and encourage each student to develop an individual pathway through school.  A great variety of subjects is offered with multi-level subject choice, leading to all tertiary education options.  We prepare academic and non-academic students to face the future with a variety of skills and confidence.

Extracurricular Activities
Many and varied – sports, arts, culture, music and drama.
English Language Support
We have qualified ESOL teachers who assess the students on arrival and assist them to adjust into school programmes.  As well as ESOL as a subject, we offer ongoing support and assistance.  Students are given the opportunity to participate in oral and written English examinations especially prepared for ESOL students, as well as preparation for IELTS and the International Toastmasters Certificate.

ESOL students also benefit from the Successmaker Computer Programme available for individual use at the Student Support Centre.

Student Welfare
International Students add another cultural dimension to our school and we understand the importance of caring for our international students.  The
Director of International Students ensures that the students’ needs are met from the time of arrival in Napier until they leave the school.  Regular reports are sent to parents giving details of progress.

Accommodation
International students live in a homestay.  This is arranged by the school and enables the students to be involved in a supportive New Zealand family life.  In this way they can learn and practice English as well as understand the New Zealand culture.

Special Relations with Overseas Schools and Students
Tamatea High School is a multicultural school, experienced in providing education and care to international students.  It welcomes and values contact with other cultures
